Hyperfile client Server vrs MSSQL using OLE-DB

We are planning the conversion of a large commercial accounting application from Clarion to WinDev - WebDev. The current database is Pervasive SQL Btrieve. We are trying to determine the relative merit of using Hyperfile Client Server vrs MSSQL Express (OLE-Dcool smiley backends. I like all the tools that come with Hyperfile but am concerned with perfomance on complex queries with 500,000 records in multiple files.

Can anyone share any experiences that would help us make a decision.
