I've a few questions regarding WEBDEV 12 generated sites running on a Linux Server.

1) Which Linux distribution do you choose.(and why do you choose that one)
2) Are meanwhile RPM's available ? (Deployment engine / HF/CS)
3) What about Webservices. Can I create a WSDL module 4 Linux ?
4) Printing : Do we have PDF support ?

and finally a not completely Linux related question : Anybody out there who has made some HF/CS benchmarks on Single Core / Multi Core engines ?

That's it ... for the moment smiling smiley Thanks in advance, Bjoern

Hi Bjoern,

Here's my experiences;

1) Which Linux distribution do you choose.(and why do you choose that one)
-> I prefer Debian based, however, I've found webdev is easier to install on RedHat based distros. On debian based distros I normally end up having to install a few missing dependencies.

2) Are meanwhile RPM's available ? (Deployment engine / HF/CS)
Not aware of any, but could be wrong.

3) What about Webservices. Can I create a WSDL module 4 Linux ?
Sure. You probably find it easier to create soap apps with WinDev.

4) Printing : Do we have PDF support ?
Again, not to my knowledge.

Sadly, there were enough obstacles with the Linux distribution that I have standardized on the windows distributions.

Cheers!
Ken

Thanks Ken,
Yeah deploying to Linux is a pain in the ass. Most recent support is for Ubuntu is 7.10
(And the so called most recent stuff from PCS is still BETA)
Wake up ! Ubuntu Server Edition is 8.04 NOW.
And howdy folks what's wrong with packages ? RPM, deb ... ?????
Jeez
It was a mistake to try WB again. At least on Linux, which is beside the major WEB platform. I am next to kick this p o s out of the office and I think I want back my money.
Extreme Nagged,.

Still frustrated.. Still No Success. Think I'll forward the problem to PCS.
Seriously :Nobody can expect that you spend more then 2 days for a simple database/ deployment engine - Linux installation.
Just to keep you informed :I thought that probabely another Linux distribution is prefered so I've dropped Ubuntu (Debian) and installed Mandravia (Red Hat) .. spend approximate 10 hours to re-install the Server incl. my shi* ...Nada ..

That stinks. Even more HOLY STINKY: The moderated PCS forum is blocking this information. Am I wrong ? NO Sirs . But just in case : Publish a solution!

Hi,

I've managed to install WebDev 12 on Ubuntu 8.0.4 wich is the most recent Ubuntu distribution. Quite a story ! I'm preparing a tutorial. A first draft is here :

Hello Pat
You made a tutorial about installing the Webdev server on a Linux 8.04 Ubuntu. Did I understand your tutorial right, that you used a Desktop version?
I cannot make the Ubuntu server 8.10 even run the exe file? Do you know why?

Hello Danie,

I used a Live CD Ubuntu 8.0.4 to install Linux on an old laptop I had. There are two Linux folders with installation packages: Linux 2 and Linux 4.

You MUST use Linux 4.
