File sharing network en Vista pc's: SLOW

Hi,

we have a client that uses our WinDev-software in file-sharing-mode with Hyperfile Classic on a server and about 4 pc's as workstations. This works OK with XP-machines, but recently he bought two Windows-Vista pc's. When he uses a Vista-pc with our software with the same file-sharing-mode with the data on the server, it works terribly slow.

Who has any suggestions to make these Vista-pc's as fast as the XP-machines ?

When the software AND data is installed on the same Vista-pc, it works on a reasonable speed.

We all know Vista is a piece of cr*p right??

I would check the machine's have enough RAM (2GB minimum imho).

Failing that, HFCS should be an easy option to implement and will most likely perform better

I will check de memory of the pc's.
HFCS is possible too, but our software is not really ready for this, yet. Some parts have to be rewritten for use with HFCS, in other words, to use queries.

I was also thinking that you could make sure the first service pack is installed. There was many issues with file copying performances, etc. So *maybe* this can help.

Check out XPUnlimited. No need to change your code and a reasonable cost. It resolved our network performance problems of HF Classic.

I had very serious network-speed troubles using Windows Vista "from the box".
In may, I applied SP1 of Vista. The networkspeed-problems disappeared.
Networkspeed is since then "as fast as under XP".
