WebDev Scalability and Servers

Hi All,

I'm looking for information on the difference between using a Windows and Linux servers.

I know the Windows version is full featured, but is the Linux version as complete? Which is the most robust (in terms of the WebDev Server)?

What's the most amount of users` using the WebDev server on both?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Glenn,

I guess the main reason my users choose Windows server - it's easier to maintain.

Currently, at one of my client site running abt 80 users on webdev app server without any issue ( as i have solved some speed issue related to OLEDB to MSSQL server).

Usually the setup is having one application server and the other as data server.

In theory, it should be able to support 250 users or more.

Peter,

Can you explain the speed problems with OLEDB
I have switch to ODBC with is extreamly fast

If you use OLEDB and it is fast i would like to know what to do!!

Kind regards

Hi Glenn...

I haven't tried the linux version, and I don't plan too considering that:
- several functions are not available (printing reports by example)
- according to friends who DID install the linux version, there is NO support available at PCsoft for this case as it seems that there is no linux specialist in house

That's way enough for me to steer clear out of this one :-)

I've changed those db access using HReadeekFirst to QUERY, it did speed up with certain cases - from 2 mins down to 5 to 10 secs !!!

For OLE DB, do not use the hreadfirst etc, it requeries and does make things slower.
