Webdev SAAS 2025

Hi,

I'm working for a client in his WB Saas.
PCSoft say: "The SaaS version allows you to use versions 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 2024 and 2025 simultaneously"
What do they mean by that, can I use these older versions without a dongle?
If I open an older version in 2025 it wil be converted.

Hi Piet

No, you can donwload these versions as SaaS versions from the portal and install them on your computer.
They don't need a dongle key but a login instead just like the newest SaaS version.

WebDev still has a small space in the tech arena (I still have some small apps running on it), but the more I am working with cloud native stuff, the more I notice how this WB tech is really outdated. WD remains the driver for PCSoft dev with WB being the ugly child trying to do the same for the web... Nowadays, new dev always starts from a web first, cloud first, api driven paradigm that is relatively easily portabe to mobile (and desktop) too...

I have to agree with you, it is falling behind, in addition, with all the bugs, and waiting for bugs to be resolved, and some bugs I have reported never do get fixed, many versions later, it is starting to feel like develop 10 times longer (not faster) , and my clients are noticing.

It makes me wonder, if developed in something else where you have more control over the underlying framework, would actually produce software without these issues, more maintainable code base.

Out of interest which cloud native stuff / development environment are you referring to, only asking because I am seriously considering another avenue?

All cloud solutions in one of my companies are built on aws serverless.
Backend: nodeJS
Frontend: react
Mobile: flutter

All fully api driven combining other (multi-)cloud native technology out of the box (AI, SQL and vector databases, textract, ...).
Main logic and intellectual property on the backend developed by our teams in Europe internally and frontend nearshore (one of our companies in Bulgaria) or outsourced offshore (India & Pakistan).

Great, thank you for the info. I am looking at other technologies my company can move to from WX , and we are considering React which you mentioned as well as Angular, to build feature rich applications , specifically web based.

A lot of bugs never gets fixed in WX, and causes frustration, as it looks to our clients like we cant fix simple stuff, If we had access to the underlying framework we could most probably fix the bugs ourself. Some bugs in WX is coming along for 3 years already and just don't get fixed.

Hi Christo,

most of real bugs in WX can be circumvented by code. Very often it turns out that a bug is based on the wishes of the developers. One should read and thorougly understand the documentation. Sometimes it helps to contact the Free Technical Support of PC Soft. Just my 2 cent

Hi React is nice but next js is way better . It has server code possibilities as well . This makes it a whole other product .with server componanats you can make your backed .!!! That is huge advatage. If projects get bigger react can be a hassel as it aal runs onthe computer of the client It can be instabel . Next js only gets to the user wat it needs .

But saying webdev is outdated .Hmm servercoponants yep it has it and had if for years ?? The problem with webdev is the applicationserver ha to be on a huge vps and you have to do it all your self. Hostin at pc soft is not an option as it is only scaling down Not up .

Better get a dedicated box or huge vps then hosting form pc soft . But you need to do a lot yourself

This these moders stacks ther is vercel and it can scale to the next facebook. It has cost it is not cheap .But no hassel allis done for you . Ands if it is not chep then it means youhave thousnads of customars and then you shouyld be able to pay .

Howevrer they have a good free, Starter accout. Poisible equal to a vpes of 20 euro per month for free!!. User supabase as a postgress db on AWS and yep free as well . Up to a few hundret users free. And it can scale to thousands of users .Ok it comes a a pricebut agin if youhgave that mutch customars youcan pay.

This is just my personal opinion . Building a huge SAAS group of applications way faster then I ever did before . But he that is just me
