Thanks a lot for this!

I usually buy WAS just for Rest API :-)

Hi Steven

I am the creator of LightREST.
We've been using it on a lot of projects since 2018, as several other developers around the world.

We mainly use it to develop backends to serve data for our frontends (developed most of the time with VueJS framework), or our WinDev Mobile apps.

The main advantage of LightREST against WinDev's native REST mechanism is performance. A LightREST API server listens directly to the port and parses requests before calling the route's function. WinDev's native solution needs a web server (IIS, Apache, ...) and a WebDev server (which you have to pay -each month now that PC SOFT forces the SAAS subscription for every server).

LightREST web site is currently only in French, but next version should be in English too.

If somebody here needs help or more information, do not hesitate to ask (I'll try to answer with my poor english ????).

Best regards
Michel Fages

Hi Michel

I'm certainly interested in LightREST as well, but will need to wait for the English version. I'm currently buying WAS just to be able to host my REST APIs - be nice to be able to ditch that!!

This sounds great.
Can you make simple Windev project and put it for download on your page.

Example project can contain:
1. One table in analisys with sample data
2. Integrated LightREST extrenal componnent
3. One window with Table or Input controls with few sample procedures Request/Response for: GET, POST, PUT,.. ?
Good example will be how to receive/send JSON and pictures. Is it same as with WebDevREST ?

It will be very helpfull for new users of your REST service.

Regards !

Hello everyone.

I've been researching LightREST for the past few days and I can say that it's great.
I've already created a web service (cloned from WAS) for one of my applications and it works great.
I've tested it both with POSTMAN and also from a web browser. Everything works fine.
You can modify the Port, IP address and even have a different web service on each computer or even the same one so that you can free up resources on the server but keep the same connection to the database.

I don't speak or read French either. However, nowadays web browsers can do that magic with languages and translate everything. grinning smiley

Of course, I'm also waiting for the announced version 3, which should become Open Source, so we can all improve it, if necessary.

Good job Michel Fages !
My respect.

Hi Ismir,
so you think it would be "safe" to start with the current version and move on to v3 when it is available?

Hi Steven.
Yes, I think he is safe. I'm using it with Windev 30 (2025) (latest dongle version for now).
It's fast, secure and it works. I hope that it will remain free and that no one will commercialize it.

What's more interesting. I created the project as a service application, attached the analysis of my other ERP project and it works.

Hello everyone...

Very interesting project and a great achievement.

However, I have a question.

If the PCSOFT deployment engine launches an "exe" for each call with all the limitations related to the necessary resources, LightRest is a single "exe" that handles the calls (in parallel?). In that case, how do you manage simultaneous SQL transactions?
