[WM2024] - testing on connected mobile
September 18, 2024 01:23PM
Hi All

I am trying to test my mobile app on a phone connected to the development laptop. I have enabled USB debugging mode. I have also installed the Samsung USB drivers. The phone is recognized by the operating system (Windows 10) and I can access the phone like another drive. However, the debugger/tester in WM2024 does not display the phone as a connected device.

I have tried this with 2 different phones, an A20e running Android 11 and an Galaxy A14 running Android 14. Neither phone is "seen" by WM2024. Any suggestions what I am missing ?

WM2024 did download the Android SDK but perhaps it had errors. If so, how do I re-download it?

Thanks

Allard,

My WM2024 does have 2 Android simulators (phone and tablet) and 2 iOS simulators (phone and tablet). So that all works fine, no problem. I just cannot get WM2024 to see my connected Android phone even though USB debugging is on and the device is accessible by the computer.

Make sure you dont have other applications like android studio opened.

If needed disable and re-enable the USB debug on the phone.

I wouldnt use the simulators that WM provides, as they dont give you the same results as testing on the android itself.

Check you have the phone unlocked when doing this because you have to accept the connection to the pc.

Thanks but ... I am not running Android Studio.

Phone is unlocked and the development computer (Windows 10) instantly sees the phone and the phone asks whether to allow access. That all works as expected. Just WDM does not see it ...

Will try the disable and re-enable USB debugging suggestion.

I use the simulators extensively and find they are pretty good, for me maybe even 95% covers all my issues. it is ony specific things which the simulator simply cannot emulate that need a physical device e.g. the StartShare() function. But for the rest, layouts, general functionality, it basically is a great help.
