How to configue WD to support appllication patch?
March 19, 2021 08:24AM
Hello,

I have never tried to use the patch generation feature of WD.

Now I have a need where I want to provide user of my software with patches which they can apply.

I tried as per the documentation (https://help.windev.com/?2030008) but the patch when put in application directory does not have any effect.

Any guide lines as to how I can do this?

TIA

The only thing not said on this page is that when you are creating the base executable (NOT THE PATCHES), you have to answer yes to the wizard question about using the patches.

Hi,

the best way to do this is to put your business logic in a component.
Deliver the dlls and the main program as a "launcher" (in one launcher.exe)
And in this launcher.exe you can load your component.

So you can replace the component (even over the internet).

Advantage:

Users need nothing to install and no administrator rights.

Works for me for years.

Hi YogiYang

You might want to read the good stuff Al wrote about using the patches nearly a year ago:
