TSPlus - Subscriptions done correctly (no replies)

Hello All,

I am a huge fan of TSPlus and use it to run my AWS EC2 servers.

They have just announced a subscription model for their software and their process is exactly how PCSoft should have done it.

Quote
TSPlus
Starting May 5, 2025, TSplus will offer a subscription
option for our product licensing.
But before we go any further - this does not change anything about your current license.
Your permanent license is still fully valid, supported, and remains a core part of our
product offerings.
Why subscriptions?
Some of our clients have asked for more flexible options, especially for short-term
projects, startups, or businesses with evolving needs. Our new subscription plans are
designed to meet those needs - as an additional choice, not a replacement.
Here’s what you can count on:
•	Your current permanent license remains active and supported.
•	We will continue to offer and sell permanent licenses as usual.
•	Subscriptions are simply another way to start or expand with TSplus, if and when
you choose.

I appreciate this is advertising but it just struck a chord with me as to how business should operate.

Regards

Hello,

Recently I have been exploring various low code tools as an alternative to WX for building mobile and web apps.

I am interested in knowing if anyone is using any such tool(s) for building mobile and web apps?

Personally I am currently using these:

FlutterFlow for building Mobile and simple Web Apps. (https://flutterflow.io/)
Noodl for building complex responsive Web Apps. (https://www.noodl.net/)
AppSmith for building back end Admin Panels for various mobile apps. (https://www.appsmith.com/)
Opensource Lowcoder for building back end Admin Panels for various mobile apps. (https://www.lowcoder.cloud/)
100% Opensource Frappe Framework for building any kind of Web Apps and Web Sites. But unfortunately it requires some coding in Python and JavaScript. (https://frappeframework.com/)

From these only FlutterFlow generates source code of the app built in it.

Absolutely zero, to make things worse than they are, the interns turns out to have zero knowledge about design, programming, or even algorithms despite majoring in Mobile apps development in one of the "most known university for IT in the country" and at every corner of the project issues keeps on appearing and the deadline is approaching very fast, with our progress being incredibly barebones that runs incredibly slowly and buggy...

Hello All

Just made a start in V22 and the Search window header now takes 7 lines of stupid navigation to accomplish what used to be done in two lines. Hopefully this is just something odd in my setup and it can be wrestled into the old format ?
I am not so blind that I need a "Find" button that runs the entire width of the search screen.

Hunting down how to setup the code edit fonts was also an pointless exercise.

Happy to contribute to a fund to tattoo "If it ain't broke... " onto the fore heads of PCSoft style geniuses.

Hello,

I just got my hands on Android apps development tool called B4A (Basic4Android) from b4x.com. It just cost US $60 to own a license version!

It is really very simple, needs quite a bit of knowledge about Android development. Is extremely flexible and plethora of libraries for various specialized activities that are available only with the paid version.

It tends to create very compact apk files.

Do check it out..!!!

It also has iOS version called B4i. One unique thing about this is that one can develop iOS apps in windows and compile the software using a cloud server and get ready to run iOS app!!! It just cost US $60 to own a license version!

Free B4J is also an interesting JAVA based application development platform and the Web Server feature is just mind blowing and it supports Materialize CSS.

Check it out at: [www.b4x.com]

Free B4R is another mind blowing tool to develop IoT apps for Arduino and ESP8266 boards.

Hello All

The other day the font in the code editor of Windev suddenly changed on the screen but not in the Windev code edit options which were still showing the original font. I was reading an article in the Calibre reader on another screen so I imagine that it was what caused the font change in the open Windev editor - yes I multitask sometimes :)

The different display font that appeared onscreen looked to be a variation on a courier font and wasn't that bad and it prompted me to look into the aspect of what would be the best font to use when editing code.

I had never bothered much before about the code font, which is interesting seeing as how I spend much of my day and night working with it.
There are a number of articles on the web and there are quite a variety of fonts available that are specifically for editing code. For me it came down initially to whatever was natively available in Windows so the main options were Lucida, Consolas and Android Sans Mono, but I am going to check out some of the free coding fonts available.
[speckyboy.com].

I am currently trying the Android Sans Mono and to me, it does look better than Lucida, which I think is the Windev default.

So the reason I am posting is to suggest that maybe some benefit could be gained by selecting a code editing font that might be more aesthetically pleasing or more functional in terms of clarity.

Hello,

Today I received a promotional email from LiveCode CEO - Kevin Miller.

The tool LiveCode looks interesting but before I invest more time on it I would like to know if anyone in this community has tried their hands on this and would like to share their experience here.

For those who don't know much about LiveCode: [livecode.com]

After reading the article on the above link I think it is a tool that, like WX reduces developers coding substantially and thus makes developers more productive.

If anyone has any first hand experience please share it....

TIA

Hi Once again me with maybe a strange request.

Does any of you know visual dataflex. It seems they now have a tool that can generate windows web and mobile apps form 1 code base.

It is compiled software that runs on the app server. thus it can be a web application windows or mobileapp. The app server does all the work.

OK Question how does this compeet with webdev? ( for the moment Iam onley interested in comparing with webdev)

It has a 4gl langadge and it can produce nice looking respobnsive apps. etc etc. cool but it compiles . Is this good or bad thing ?

The reson why I ask this is because I have found an other developer who agrees with me on the use of servoy. We both want to make business apps. Not de bussiness of making work arrounds or spending 10 times more time on stuff that should be simple.

He is veery sceptic. And with good reason. (servoy becomes more and more a desaster ) And the windows app of the company is written in dataflex as well ( an older version, ). Servoy was choosen at the time because dataflex was not good anough a view years ago.

We are spendig a few months now on an API . And Iam working on an huge xml import that would have been finnished when using webdev ( I think it webdev works with xml like windev does, ha ha )

Ok Long story. Does anyone know visual dataflex and could any one give pointers why webdev is better?

regards

I love using all of the WX products, but I have one area of complaint.

PCSoft does not seem to implement the interface with external languages well and they provide no support for such. I have sent projects that show failures (GPF) and projects that show the .NET assemblies created in WinDev do not work correctly. Always the response is that they don't support C# and I have to use the paid support.

I understand they can't help with my C# code, but they can look at simple examples where there is a possible bug in WinDev. The answer about the WinDev created .NET assembly was that the assembly could be used in another WinDev project. Why would I create an assembly to use in WinDev?

I admit that if I was an experienced .NET programmer and not just learning enough for my own needs, it might be better but I have tried my best to compensate by taking online lessons in C# and purchasing good references.

In this increasingly complex development world, I would suspect interface with other languages would be important. That is the only way to use special hardware devices. None of the manufacturers I have dealt with provide WinDev sample code nor have they heard of WinDev.

Hi everybody.

Just a little off-topic to ask you something: how much is your fee per hour for WD development?? Where do you work? (I mean Germany, France, USA, etc..)

PS: sorry for this off-topic. I didn't know where else to find a lot of WD developers. Kind regards.
Hi

I think that the fee per hour for moast wd developers depends on the amount of work. If it is a job that takes 6 months or 3 weeks can make quite a difference.

I think that a kwalified wd developer ( mening someone who realy knows Windev ) will cost you 60 to 90 euro or more per hour. 60 if the job is big if it is a small job 90 or more . But that's my opinion.

I think moast of the windev developers live in france, Belgium, Spain, Germany. I think I read somewhere that pcsoft has sold some 10.000 copies in the us as well. There is a developers comunity in australia so it's used there as well, donnot know how many developers though. And I saw some questions on this forum from people in England. I live in holland and windev isnot used mutch in holland. ( that 's my opinion for there are verry view vacancees in holland for wx developers in Holland)

I think it is better that if you want to hire someone you should tell where you are and what kind of project you have ( duration) Then they can contact you and give you an estimate ( hour rate )

I hope this info helps

Thank you Allard for your reply.

This questions is not for hiring someone. The objective is to have an idea (all of us Wx developers) about how well (or bad) are we being payed for our work.

Dear colleague, if you enter to this topic, please leave your opinion, it doesn't matter if you are payed in a monthly basis. The important thing here is to know how is the Wx maket payed!! I think it's interesting for all of us.

Kind regards.
Ok see what you mean.

If you are an experianced windev developer , not a beginner. Then I'ts about the same as a medior VS developer. You can problebly make 3000 euro in a month easily when you are an employee.

In Austria, as an employee, I'd say you'd make between 2500 - 3200 Euros / month. At least. Before taxes and deductions (social security etc). That's between 1700 - 2000 net payment. e.g. we have only one employed programmer, because of the nature of our business, means we make standard software and definitely no custom applications. Custom programming is slave business and you have to have a very good plan to make any good money from it.
Hi Jimbo, thanks for your reply.

I'm an independent developer. I wanted to have an idea (any) about how much a Wx developer can be payed.

Let me ask you why you consider that custom development isn't a good business. I agree with you, it could be an slave business... but if you charge for every modification, it can be very profitable.

Hi, here in Austria independent Windows developers (aka freelancers) should charge between 60,- and 100,- Euros per hour. It depends on length and difficulty of the job, on the freelancer's experience and on the customer's ability to pay. Whoever asks for less than 30,- Euros / hour will not be able to live from the job in the long run. Taking 50% employment as a basis i.e. ~80 hours / month. A freelancer has to pay for his insurance + retirement and, of course, taxes.

Slave business. Customers tend to ask for the price of a full project rather than for a price / hour. Btw, I'd do so as well. Software guys are generally weak on estimating time + cost for a project. Rule of thumb: multiply by two in order to arrive at realistic results. At least. Next, one has to have a good legal and strategic framework for doing projects. Most freelancers are having none at all. If we are doing smaller projects which happens from time to time, the framework looks like:

1 - making the analysis (different from WinDev, the 'analysis' is a structured description of the full program, not only the database. This has to be paid per hour and signed by the customer when finished.

2 - making a prototype. Not really functional windows show how the software will work. Payment per hour and again customer's signature is required to confirm that the program is what s/he expects.

3 - An offer for the full program. Definition of 'milestones' with a payment plan. If a payment doesn't arrive, work on project is stopped. If additional 'features' are asked for, the whole thing may undergo a rework with charge / hour and a newly revised offer.

4 - Acceptance procedure. Check function against offer. Last payment follows.

5 -Maintenance is to be charged per hour. Many customers don't want to pay for maintenance at all, they're asking for kind of a warranty time and try to put all newly 'invented' features into the project as 'warranty' or 'maintenance'. So, we don't give warranty time and maintenance is to be charged per hour.

Most prospective customers don't want to be constricted by such a framework and signal thereby that they don't want to pay the real price for their project. Additionally, there are web sites like [www.getacoder.com] where cheap Indian or Chinese programmers are offering their services ..

Kind regards, Guenter

That's a very useful insight. It's useful to know what others are doing and more importantnly, are doing successfully! :spos:

What are your thoughts on charging for support/maintenance using a pre-pay system - such as the customer purchasing 100 hours of support. Have you tried this? Do the customers wince when you ask for money up front?

Hi, imho prepaid maintenance systems don't work for small companies. Many reasons, some believe they built a kind of friendship, some believe that they paid for the software anyway and so on. 15 years ago, for several years we tried to get money for support by having a prepay-system (~ 70,- Euros / year) and letting them call as long as they wanted. Out of 700 customers we got less than 100 who were willing to pay. And guess what? Those who called mostly weren't identical to those who had paid!

Solution: we switched to a premium rate phone number for support. 2,17 Euros / minute. This phone number makes about 400,- Euros / month now. It's not a lot of money but something. The official phone ends in the office, no one there knows anything about software. Sorry Sir, you have to call phone# 0900-530224 Bottom line: everyone pays as much for support as they need and people are switching on their brains before calling, because they're thinking economically, not to say worse ... so I'm getting only those on the phone who did not find a solution for themselves and there are not so many interruptions when having an appointment.

Kind regards, Guenter
Mmmm, That's very interesting... Here in the UK, premium numbers are not looked on so kindly and have a "stigma" attached. I totally understand about making people think before they call.

A lot of the ISPs and broadband suppliers are using them - 50p or even £1 per minute, hanging on the phone for long periods, and more often than not, your problem may not be solved, so it's easy to see why people have a general dislike of these types of phone numbers.

Is the premium rate in addition to the p.h. rate?

Yes, it's in addition to the ordinary phone rate .. we never let them wait. They call and they are talking to me or another competent person. Though this is a fixed phone it's redirected to a cell phone and whoever is in charge for support takes it with him/her in addition to the personal phone. And of course - we do not call back.
I do not understand PC Soft. Either they do not have good developers or they can not really

I wrote in March 2008:
Problem with Appointment functions

Request Details:
Hello,
please look at that sample code:

SessionID is int
SessionID = EmailStartOutlookSession("Outlook")
// Initialize the variables of the Appointment structure
//AppointmentReset()
// Fill the variables for the new appointment
mAppointment.Subject = "Sales meeting"
mAppointment.StartDate="20080325100000"
mAppointment.EndDate="200803251200000"
mAppointment.ReminderBefore=15
mAppointment.AutoReminder=True
mAppointment.Location = "Room 3B"
mAppointment.NbParticipant = 3
mAppointment.Participant[1] = "Roman"
mAppointment.Participant[2] = "Lucas"
mAppointment.Participant[3] = "Stephen"
// Add the appointment
IF AppointmentAdd(SessionID) = True THEN
Info("Appointment successfully added")
ELSE
Error("Error while adding", ErrorInfo())
END

When I click on the Button I get the message "Appointment successfully added". The appointment is entered in Outlook 2003 (Servicepack 3).
But Outlook shows me immediately after the reminder window of this appointment. But the appointment is on 25.03.2008! When I put the same date(25.03.2008) in the just open reminder window of Outook and click on "safe&close", comes the reminder window not more.

I got the following response(March 2008!):
Hi THOMAS,

Thank you for this feedback. I replicate easily the problem with your code using Outlook 2002. This problem has been submitted to our developers. It might require a fix or an upgrade. However it is not possible to tell at the moment. We will contact you as soon as we have new information on that matter. You may use the following reference if you contact the hotline 55829.

It is very difficult for us to know how this particular problem may affect your application. Do not hesitate to contact us again if you think this is critical for you.

I asked again this year if the bug is fixed. Now I have presented the following results:
I have bad news. As our developpers investigate about the problem, they found a bug in the underlying Microsoft function for Outlook. Therefore it is impossible for us to fix this bug.I'm very sorry to say that and I wish it would end in a better way.

That does not exist yet! I have Visual Studio with which I can comunicate with no problems with Outlook!
Without a auto reminder I forgot my calendar entries in Outlook! For me this wonderful feature is completely useless! How to avoid this fatal error?

A desperate man with Windev, still wish you all a happy new year
