Arrays

Hi,

currently, in WLanguage indices of arrays are 1 -> n, however, I'd find an option for 0 -> n much better. My ages-old BASIC compiler offers that option for declaration of arrays. I think, it would better solve the well-known problems with combo-boxes where a file-driven combo can show something like "Choose the customer!", but a combo based on programming always shows the first value.

Of course, I do know the option to let a combo result any glink-value, imho a much easier thing would be the option to allow 0 -> n in an array.

I am still missing the column header field in the item's description...
And here's another suggestion to improve the editing of the analysis (the data descriptions): the copy feature. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to just copy an existing file item to a new one and then just change the label and what ever else needs to be changed? This would give a lot more speed to developing the analysis.

Windev Linux Cursor Addition

It would be great if the CursorPos(Function) could be upgraded to support Linux in a future release. There are so many things I cannot do in Linux with your program because of this (which is easily available in Linux). Of course the more support for Linux the better as your program is a god-send for quick applications in a normally slow development environment.
If someone knows of a way for me to capture the position of a cursor in Linux another way please let me know.

Hi Guys
I think this topic is old but still the questions remain. In my personal case I will try to answer based on my own experience and that could change with yours and within the time frame.

1. Any of you currently use or have used PC Soft's WinDev, WebDev and/ or WinDev Mobile?

I stated using PCSoft Products WX (let me use it for windex, webdev and windev mobile) from the version 7.5 I think in the 90's but that time I was much focus on Borland Turbo Pascal. After few year PC soft release the version12 and from there I am using the version 24 today:
What I like and that didn't change a lot it's the philosophy of PCSoft to make their product " Gaining Time Tool" and it is a really gaining time tool because:
1 - Its provide a graphical environment with a lot of "Gabarits" or template pre made which avoid a lot of coding - In Visual studio you might have to code a lot of windows and graphical tools that you need.
2 - PCSoft is trying to bring their coding by the natural language, I mean many instruction seems and sound like human regular expression
3 - They are trying to make one platform for Mobile, Web and Application development. Today their products are almost one integrated solution despite you have to install those three products separately.
4 - They are providing a convivial development environment as Visual studio but in better way.

From here don't think that Wx are better far from there.
It is a complete closed system built by a French company that intend to keep full control by controling every aspect of developement of product. in Visual Studio you're the King. You can develop many module or use many libraries provided by other developer.
Visual Studio is really an universal tools while Wx stay (les be fair) national.
I stopped using Wx products sometime when I have project that really need coding and coding NOT only managing data. I use python a lot for Data analytics by using libraries such as pandas, numpy, matplotlib and so one, and really in 2018 these are fully integrated into visual studio and they give more power and flexibilities. In 2018 Wx is has timid touch on those type of programming. They still improving in Data management, I will say relate to structured data (database)

Let me emphasis one of the huge lack in WX products for example: Today on the web development, you cannot easily avoid using Bootstrap and TRUST me if you want use bootstrap into Webdev, I wish you good luck while it's now just a piece of cake in Visual Studio.

I am trying to use the power of PCsofts interface development to use the power of python libraries but I am sorry it is painful, because you have to build .dll first then build maybe full app and then call them into PCsofts. it is horrible.
But you want use the power of python into visual studio then just call the libraries by few line of code.

2. Do you use both?

I use both and but everything depend on the type of project:
If my project request :
Database style, presentation on mobile devices and web I will tend to use PCsoft products.
If my project request:
Analysis, scientific, databases, web and mobile I will use VS if you can see the tricky difference.
Every depend for me how open or close is my need and tools available to tackle to work.

3. Did you try PC Soft's suite but stayed with VS? and why?

Let me clear on this question, IF you start with PCSofts tools, you won't stop honestly. You might park it for certain time when you will figure out you don't have all the tools that you need for your work.

4. If you started over, what would you choose as your primary toolset? and why?
I will respond this question by another way.
Let assume that there is only the two (visual studio and PCsofts WX) in the world and I have to choose absolutely one and only one then, I will choose Visual Studio. Why?
Whatever you can do with (Pcsofts products) could be done by Visual studio but the inverse is not true.

I am not the graal into this comparison and in my opinion nothing is better than other, everything should be just in context, then decision making will be easy.

Hello,

I need help in deciding what tools I should choose for building applications for the desktop, web and mobile.

I'm looking at Visual Studio and PC Soft's suite of tools. I'm currently playing around with both and after seeing the kind of time investment required, I had better stop and make sure to choose the right toolset to avoid changing later and starting over.

If you have experience with both, I'd love to hear from you... I already know PCSoft users will say PCSoft and VS users will say VS, but what is really needed is advice from someone that has experiences with both as only they can properly compare the two. Lets start with a few questions...

1. Any of you currently use or have used PC Soft's WinDev, WebDev and/ or WinDev Mobile?

2. Do you use both?

3. Did you try PC Soft's suite but stayed with VS? and why?

4. If you started over, what would you choose as your primary toolset? and why?

{sFile + "." + "PRICE",inditem} += 100.00 works all right, but

FOR ALL sFile does not, and that is my point here. Neither does

FOR ALL {sFile,indfile}, which also fails.

A variable simply cannot be used as the filename in FOR ALL filename.
Or, if it can, I don't know how.

Can you give a specific example of what you are trying to achieve please.

The standard method is to extract a directory list into a string and then work through the string using fExtractPath() to breakout the file name and other pieces.

LFileName is string
LFileList = fListFile(LSrchDir,frRecursive)
// For each file found
FOR EACH STRING LFileName OF LFileList SEPARATED BY CR

Hi all,

It is possible to pass the filename as a variable to many WX file handling commands, but not to "For All". Having this possibility would make it possible to make very generic procedures.

I wonder why this is not possible? Maybe it is too difficult for PCsoft to do?

ios/Android features in wm21

Below is my wishlist:

1 enhanced bcCapture function esp. QRscan allowing me to tap and focus
which QR to be scanned in scan area that happens to have so many QR labels
nearby provided all QR labels in a sheet is clear enough.

2 new ocrScan to text control esp long email address

3 voiceToText control in wm21 is a must as you can see control in iMessage but it saves
huge amount of time to type and so does pictureControl.

4 an imageSignature control is very useful for client to sign for accepting purchased products.

5. iPreview in pdf with signature function is an offset for (4) is also good to go
for customer to sign off invoices/po...

As I am doing workaround in wm20 as above as they are all practical for business use.

We are using QR scan very heavy and very useful indeed in wm20 for ios9/iPhone6,
it's super fast indeed.

Awaiting wm21 news...

There's a couple issues with the dxxxxxxxx functions.

The one I'm annoyed with most: in a procedure running in a separate thread, create a new image variable, load an image into it (try to get a larger size (2000x2000) to see the result more clearly) then rotate that image... all in a separate thread. A separate thread.... a separate thread (just to be clear... it's all happening in a separate thread...)...

The call to dRotation hangs up the main UI thread until it's finished. The dRotation call, being performed on a variable that exists only in a separate thread... hangs up the UI thread.

I've since utilized an OpenGL wrapper to do all of my graphics stuff for me -- I don't call a single dxxxxxxx function anymore and life is grand :) I do enjoy how easy it is to utilize other libraries in WinDev - they did a great job there :)

I have the same problem using dRotation. But the WD Advanced Rotation example uses the same function without blurring.

Anyone else deal with this?

Just to give some credit to PCSoft:

Block editing is currently (in version 19) as good as it needs be, maybe even better than what is what in Clarion CPD, where I first learned to use it. The only drawback is that you have to use mouse to fully use it.

I agree with arronwall. Generally, image control can render images easily, but for PDF file, maybe not easy. Firstly, maybe render PDF to image object collection.

I think many image controls online also allows users to do PDF manipulating with it nowadays. But I am not using Acrobat Reader. I googled another Image control to help me with the PDF processing. You can also google it and have a try. Good luck.

Internal page control - source by code, Controls inside looper X and Y positions

Improvement of this controls is needed:

1. Internal page control evolution
-source of internal page control can not be changed by code ?! Why not?
If supported, it would result in a "modular" build of applications.
For example, you could create a pages with internal page controls and fill them programmatically according to what is choosen from the menu or defined by the parameters, etc. It would make the development much easier and faster.

2. LOOPER control evolution
-it is not possible to retrive ..X and ..Y positions of controls insisde a looper ?! Why not??
If supported, looper could be THE ULTIMATE MENU CONTROL. Why? You can form the looper to be used as vertical or horizontal menu system. Getting the ..X and ..Y position of controls, we would be able to position a cell with submenu or a popup with submenu, etc.

Hi,

On the top right corner of the popup window there is a lock. By locking this you can reuse it for any other control you select in the editor...

However, what I requested soem years ago as a suggestion was the ability to do mass updates on the attributes using (sql?) scripting instead of having to manually go through every control or analysis item and modify this through the 7-tab window...

I would agree. For me it even does not have to go that far but have some functions to implement a kind of RAD for myself would do a lot for the code i am writing. Now i have to click a lot to make a new Class or a method/property for that class. There are as far as i know not even hotkeys for this! So let them start with that. Ill macro the rest until they make it more open.

But on the side of having plain text files. It does not even have to be that complicated. If they serialize every file to a XML file they would already have a plain text file system. It would be slow but it should work in no time. :)
